Hempfield Area High School is hosting its 14th annual Junior Varsity Softball Tournament on Sunday, April 15, 2012; the rain make-up day for the tournament is Sunday, April 22nd.  The tournament is a SIXTEEN team, single-day event played in four pools of four teams.  There is a three game guarantee for every team attending the tournament.

All games will be conducted under WPIAL rules.  Teams will play three pool games at one of eight different fields within a one-mile radius of Hempfield Area High School.  After pool play is completed, the pool winners will play to determine who plays in the championship game.  Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams; gold and silver medals will be given to the first and second place players.  MVP medals will also be awarded to one player in every game.

The cost is $335.00; each team is requested to bring six softballs, which will be returned at the conclusion of the tournament.  The following teams have previously attended or are currently signed-up for the tournament:  Belle Vernon, Bethel Park, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Central Catholic, Hempfield Area, Indiana, Norwin, Penn-Trafford, Plum, Seneca Valley, Somerset Area, Thomas Jefferson, Trinity, and Upper St. Clair.  This is a very popular and well-organized tournament; it is a great opportunity to develop young players and evaluate their performance in a competitive setting.
