Dr. Conner has served the Burrell School District community in several different capacities for the past 11 years. He has contributed to many substantial improvements to the school district programs, services and student achievement during his tenure.
Dr. Conner’s educational career started in Butler, Pennsylvania where he taught science from 2001 to 2006. He also served as the administrator for Butler Area School District’s Program for At-Risk students. While in the Butler Area School District, Dr. Conner was credited with several advancements including the creation of a positive support program called STAND TALL, the supported students in the fight against the use of drugs and alcohol and helping to direct the district’s Accreditation for Growth team.
In 2006, Dr. Conner was honored to join the Burrell School District community as the middle school Assistant Principal and district’s Special Education Director. He was promoted two school years later to become the Principal of Charles A. Huston Middle School. Dr. Conner was promoted to the Assistant Superintendent position beginning in the 2011-2012 school year.
Dr. Conner earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Francis University in 1999 and his Master’s of Education degree from Duquesne University in 2001. While at Duquesne University he was honored with the Intern of the Year award. Dr. Conner completed his Principal Certification from Slippery Rock University in 2004. Dr. Conner earned his Doctoral degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012. During his studies, he was honored with the Julius Filcik Doctoral Fellowship Award for his contributions to educational research.
Dr. Conner has authored or co-authored numerous grants for the Burrell School District, including many that brought a Dream Flight Simulator to district students, safety equipment, a greenhouse, and several pieces of technology for the students.
In addition to his duties as Assistant Superintendent at Burrell School District, Dr. Conner served as the district’s Federal Programs Coordinator, Student Services Director, Homeless and Foster Care Liaisons, Civil Rights Compliance Officer, and Executive Director of the Burrell Education Foundation.
Dr. Conner resides in Murrysville with his wife Brenda and two children, Lydia and Lou. Lydia is in 5th grade while Lou is in 1st.Dr. Matthew R.
