Barbara Marin grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and has been a resident of Westmoreland County for more than thirty years. Dr. Marin received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. She obtained her Master of Arts Degree in Language Communications and Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Pittsburgh. She obtained her Elementary and Secondary Principal Certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Marin also received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility from Duquesne University. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled, “A Case Study of the Perceptions of Efficacious Teachers in School Cultures that Support Educational Change.”
Dr. Marin served as the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education in the Hempfield Area School District from 2001 through 2014. Prior to this she was both an elementary principal and Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the Indiana Area School District for eight years. She was also an elementary and middle school teacher in the Greensburg Salem School District for seventeen years and taught in West Caldwell, New Jersey and Utica, New York.
In 2014, Dr. Marin was appointed Superintendent of Schools for the Hempfield Area School District. She oversees the K-12 educational programs and all aspects of district operations.
Dr. Marin has one daughter, Bethany, who is a graduate of Clemson University and lives in Greenville, South Carolina with her husband Dylan.
